Biostime at Probiota Americas 2026: Presenting New Research on Infant Colic

June 2026 | Science & Research

We've always believed that everyday wellness begins in the gut and at Probiota Americas 2026 (Vancouver BC) we had the opportunity to bring that belief to the scientific stage.

Biostime was proud to be represented at one of North America's leading conferences dedicated to prebiotics, probiotics, and the microbiome, bringing together academia and industry to advance understanding, research, and the application of biotics in health. Our team presented new research on one of the most common challenges parents face in those early months: infant colic.

What the research explored

Our team presented a research poster titled "Amelioration of Colic Symptoms in Children Utilizing a Liquid Supplement Containing a Novel Probiotic," authored by Ryan McLendon M.Sc. and Elle Staley — a Biostime-backed study conducted through H&H Research.

The study evaluated a novel probiotic blend — combining Bifidobacterium longum and Pediococcus pentosaceus CECT 8330 with Vitamin D — in 114 infants aged 0–6 months over a 21-day observational period.

What parents reported

The results were encouraging. Parents in the study observed:

  • A 63% improvement in total crying time by Day 21
  • An 81% reduction in the duration of crying episodes
  • A 63% improvement in frequency of crying
  • A 78% reduction in stomach bloat and ease of passing gas
  • An increase in falling asleep from 53% to 69% by Day 21

Notably, 84.5% of parents noticed improvement within the first week.*

Why this matters

For parents navigating the exhausting reality of infant colic, solutions that work quickly and gently matter. Backed by randomized clinical research, these probiotic strains have demonstrated significant improvements in infant colic symptoms both individually and in combination, adding to the growing evidence supporting the gut microbiome's role in infant wellness—a founding principle at Biostime.

We're proud of Ryan and the team for bringing Biostime's science to the stage, and we look forward to continuing to share research that supports families from day one.
